Ezequiel Salido

Ezequiel Salido, MD, PhD, is the Principal Investigator at SalidoLab and an Assistant Professor at West Virginia University.

Ezequiel earned his medical and doctoral degrees from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he explored the early mechanisms leading to diabetic retinopathy and potential therapies. Following this, Dr. Salido gained expertise in computational neuroscience, working on vision phototransduction computational models. He then pursued a short postdoctoral position in the brain-machine-interface field, which sparked his interest in neuronal extracellular matrices.

Dr. Salido deepened his research focus during his postdoctoral training in Dr. Visvanathan Ramamurthy's lab, where he studied the extracellular matrix surrounding photoreceptors. In 2020, he established his independent laboratory at WVU as a non-tenure-track Research Assistant Professor and transitioned to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in 2024 after securing NIH R01 funding.

SalidoLab’s research centers on understanding how the interphotoreceptor matrix supports photoreceptor function, with an emphasis on how this extracellular matrix contributes to vision diseases, aiming to provide advancements in therapeutic approaches.
